EXPLORE CHORA

photo

Start your day with a walk through the charming streets of Antiparos Town. The whitewashed houses, bougainvillea-covered corners and little boutiques make it lovely to simply wander around with no particular destination.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Stop for a coffee or an ice cream, browse the local shops and come back in the evening when the pedestrian streets become lively with restaurants, bars and people enjoying the warm summer nights.

WANDER AROUND THE CASTLE

photo

Hidden in the heart of Antiparos Town, the Venetian Castle is one of the island’s most fascinating landmarks and a beautiful glimpse into its medieval past.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Built in the 15th century by the Venetian nobleman Marco I Sanudo, the castle was designed as a fortified settlement to protect the island from pirate attacks. Unlike the traditional castles you might imagine, it was once a small residential neighbourhood built around a central defensive tower, with houses forming part of the fortification itself.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Today, only the central tower and parts of the original settlement remain, surrounded by the charming whitewashed houses of Chora.

VISIT THE ANTIPAROS CAVE

photo

One of Greece’s most impressive natural wonders, the Cave of Antiparos is also one of the oldest known caves in Europe, with some of its stalactites estimated to be more than 45 million years old.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

A winding path of several hundred steps takes you deep into the mountain, past spectacular stalactites, stalagmites and dramatic rock formations. Over the centuries, the cave has attracted famous visitors, including Lord Byron, adding an intriguing layer of history to this remarkable natural setting.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Set aside a few hours for the visit, wear comfortable shoes and bring a light jacket — it can be pleasantly cool inside, even during the summer months.

TAKE A BOAT TO DESPOTIKO

photo

Just across the water from Antiparos, the uninhabited island of Despotiko is one of the best places to explore by boat.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Spend the day swimming in crystal-clear waters, discovering secluded beaches and exploring the island’s archaeological remains.
